It takes a tremendous amount of work and time to make our little league work. All of this work is being done by volunteers. Much of the work can be seen, but there are numerous hours of behind-the-scenes work that goes into making this league run. We are very fortunate to have many capable members of the board to do the work. Their efforts are a crucial part of making this league run as smoothly as it does. Join me in giving them a “thank you” for their service to our league. As hard as we try there is always room for improvement. If you have an idea or suggestion - please let us know. In fact, please come to our next board meeting (Second Thursday of each month) at the Wallingford Park and Recreation and be part of the solutions. I hope you can join us.

Check out our website www.wllbball.com from time to time for more details.

Wallingford Little League is an organization run solely by volunteers. We need your help. Please, please consider joining us. It is a great way to show your children you care. You will enjoy it too! Some of my best friendships have been developed through my involvement with this league. Don’t miss out.

The start of the Little League season brings great expectations and promises. We really do strive to meet and exceed those expectations and promises. Join us and you can help us see that we do.

Dave Swanson – Owner, SPBI

Dave is a former professional baseball player (1991-2001) and coach (2013-2014), where he served as the Cleveland Indians Pitching Rehab Coordinator/Assistant Rookie Pitching Coach.

He was selected in the 9th round (251st overall) of the 1991 Free Agent Draft by the New York Mets out of Berlin High School, and spent his 11-year career with Mets, Rockies, and Red Sox MLB organizations, along with playing independently with the Amarillo Dillas, Waterbury Spirit, and Bridgeport Bluefish.

While at BHS he was named the 1991 Gatorade Player of the Year for Connecticut and Gatorade Player of the Year for New England.
During his playing career he pitched in 234 games, starting 146, had a career record of 58-48 (27-21), logged 1044 innings, and had a 3.78 ERA.

He was dealt to the Colorado Rockies as part of the Brett Saberhagen trade in 1995.

Following his 11-year playing career “Swanny” earned a Communication degree at CCSU, leading to a nine-year run working as the K-Zone Producer for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball before joining the Indians staff in 2013. He came back to ESPN, serving as the K-Zone Producer again in 2015 – present. His job duties now include in-depth scouting reports for the on-air talent and the Baseball Tonight telecast.

Along with his time at ESPN he developed SPBI, LLC in 2002 which now enters its 16th season in business. Because of the highly passionate, talented, patient, and knowledgeable instructors he has had in his program throughout the 16 years, our program has had the opportunity to work with 14 students have gone on the play at the professional level (four current), and over 100 who have played, or are playing at the college level. This only happened because of the time and effort these students put forth.

If you have ever dreamed of getting behind the plate and making the calls now is your chance to get the training to realize your dreams. On Saturday March 9, 2019 there will be an umpire’s clinic from 9a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Giamatti Little League Center in Bristol. Our league will cover the cost of the first 5 to sign up.
